Find out which old films Amazon Prime recently added to its Streaming service.

I was surprised to see old movies added to Amazon Prime. We are living in an era of big film productions that make a lot of money. This means that the offer of films becomes greater every day and the time to watch them becomes shorter. Therefore, great films that marked generations tend to be forgotten.

A long time ago you could find these films in video stores, but those no longer exist. Although we are losing a lot, the creation of streaming platforms has minimized this damage. And Amazon Prime surprised us with these recently added old films

Old film for children and teenagers: “The Neverending Story” (1984)

The classic “The Neverending Story” is a fantasy film released in 1984, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and based on the book of the same name by Michael Ende. The film tells the story of Bastian, a lonely boy who is constantly bullied by his classmates.

One day, he hides in a bookstore and starts reading a book called “The Neverending Story”. The book tells the story of a magical world called Fantasia, which is being threatened by Nothing, a dark force that is destroying everything in its path.

Bastian is transported into the book and finds himself in the shoes of a hero who needs to save Fantasia. He encounters several memorable characters, such as Atreyu, a young warrior who is tasked with finding a solution to the problem of Nothingness, and Falcor, a luck dragon who helps Bastian on his journey.

The film is a classic of fantasy cinema and is known for its stunning special effects as well as its stirring soundtrack. It was followed by two sequels, “The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter” and “The Neverending Story III: Return to Fantasy,” but neither was as successful as the original film.

Movie for adults: Interview with the Vampire (1994)

Another classic, “Interview with the Vampire” is a gothic horror film released in 1994, directed by Neil Jordan and based on the novel of the same name by Anne Rice. The film tells the story of Louis de Pointe du Lac, a wealthy New Orleans farmer who is transformed into a vampire by Lestat de Lioncourt, an older and more powerful vampire.

The film is told in flashback, with Louis telling his story to a reporter in San Francisco. Through flashbacks, the viewer follows Louis' transformation into a vampire and his struggle to adapt to his new life. He meets other vampires, including Armand, a centuries-old vampire who leads a vampire community in Paris.

This work is notable for its exceptional cast and performance, especially from Brad Pitt as Louis and Tom Cruise as Lestat. The setting is richly detailed, with magnificent sets and stunning costumes. The film received generally positive reviews and is considered a classic of gothic horror cinema. He also helped popularize the vampire subgenre in cinema and popular culture in general.

Film “Butterfly Effect” (2004)

This is a psychological thriller film released in 2004, directed by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber. The film tells the story of Evan Treborn, a young man who suffers from memory lapses and decides to return to his childhood through a diary he has kept since he was a child. Upon rereading his notes, he discovers that he can go back in time and change the course of events.

Each time he alters the past, he returns to the present to discover that his changes have had unpredictable side effects. Events that he changed result in completely different consequences, and Evan struggles to right his wrongs and save those he loves.

The film is known for its non-linear narrative and creative approach to time travel. It also explores complex themes such as chaos, destiny and moral responsibility. Ashton Kutcher's performance as Evan Treborn was praised, as was the film's direction and editing.

Although “The Butterfly Effect” received mixed reviews when it was released, the film acquired a dedicated fan base and became a cult classic. It also spawned two sequels, “Butterfly Effect 2” and “Butterfly Effect 3: Revelation,” but both were less well-received than the original.

The Classic Old movie for those who played video games: “Mortal Kombat” (1995)

Another old film added was “Mortal Kombat” which is a fantasy action film first released in 1995, directed by Paul WS Anderson. The film is based on the popular fighting video game series of the same name and follows a group of fighters chosen to compete in a martial arts tournament known as Mortal Kombat.

The tournament is organized by the evil Shang Tsung, who plans to conquer Earth using his warriors from Outworld, an alternate dimension world. The fighters chosen to represent Earth include Liu Kang, a Shaolin monk, Sonya Blade, a United States special forces agent, and Johnny Cage, a Hollywood actor. Together, they fight to defend Earth and defeat Shang Tsung.

The film is known for its exciting, at-the-time fight choreography, which is inspired by the movements of the game's characters. It also features impressive special effects, such as creatures and settings that are faithful to the game's universe. The film's electronic soundtrack is another highlight, with several original songs created by renowned electronic music artists, such as The Immortals and Orbital.

Although “Mortal Kombat” received mixed reviews at the time of its release, the film developed a loyal fan base and is considered a cult classic. It spawned a sequel in 1997, “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,” which was not as well-received as the original. A reboot of the film was released in 2021.

The value of old films

Although current films have much more investment in their productions, old films have their value. Many of them impacted people's lives in ways that today's major productions cannot even imagine. With little investment, the film's content needed to be very good. I personally really like old films.
